Abstract

The paper tries to analyze the legal status of the Art cities. Indeed, an Art City cannot be considered only as the complex of artifacts - which are present in its territory - with their proper legislations, but may be designed also as object of an own legislation, as a place of art in itself. The difficulty of this reconstruction depends on the idea of consider the Art City as a good in itself, subject to a specific regulation. The study analyses both the extralegal and the legal notion of Art City, highlighting in particular the main ideas of the Italian scholarship in this domain, and the first efforts to design an Art City Statute in Italy and Europe as a whole (i.e. Florence Chart).
