Abstract
The eighth session of the Open-ended intergovernmental working group on transnational corporations and other business enterprises with respect to human rights (OEIGWG) took place in Geneva from 24 to 28 October 2022. This article summarises the history of the OEIGWG and the main steps in the process of drafting a treaty on business and human rights. It then offers an account of the development of the negotiations during the eighth session. In particular, it focuses on two aspects. First, the article provides an account of the evolution of the debate on the scope of the draft treaty. Second, it outlines the main elements of the discussion on the textual proposals presented by the Chair-Rapporteur. The article concludes with brief comments on the state of the negotiations and the process ahead
