Abstract
This contribution deals with the most significant findings in the case law of the Italian Supreme Court of Cassation concerning the shipmaster’s obligation to rescue people at sea. The aim is to assess how it has been interpreted, whether and to what extent it has contributed to interpreting and applying Italian criminal law and what critical issues have emerged.
