Abstract
Body Integrity Dysphoria is a disorder in which people feel intense despair at possessing a specific limb. Some studies have shown that those affected are satisfied when they have achieved their goal through medical interventions. A problem is the stigmatization. On the basis of a psychological indication, transgender or cosmetic surgery is possible in many countries, but someone who has the feeling that a leg does not belong to the own body is considered «crazy». The cause of BID is probably a congenital neurological dysfunction, i.e. those affected are not to blame for it; most are mentally healthy. They need the support of our society.
