Abstract

The pleasure generated by the suspense would act as a reward and incentive in the exercise of fundamental anticipation and generation of expectations, as shown by the analysis of a novel by Simenon. As predictive activities stimulate the production of dopamine, a neurotransmitter that confirms the expectations (Lehne 2014), highlights degrees of uncertainty are related to the level of pleasure that is generated by the intended resolution: in neurocognitivistic sense, it may be said that the neuronal effects of suspense are similar to the biochemical condition that distinguishes the extreme sports, but with remarkable gains in predictive skill.
