Abstract

Although Boccaccio quotes Theodontius frequently, he is otherwise unknown, and his identity and date are disputed. I argue that none of the materials credited to him by Boccaccio derives from Greek sources, while his most relevant fragments have close similarities with medieval latin mythographic writings, which could have received this ridiculous pseudo-Greek name in order to increase the small number of Greek authors in the Genealogia.
