Abstract
The essay aims at bringing to light some aspects of the cultural and psychological impact of the First World War through an analysis of Ernst Jünger's war diaries. In particular, it focuses on aftermaths such as the breakdown of the belief in progress, the rise of a cyclic conception of history and the development of defensive strategies enabling the subject to cope with new technological threats.
