Abstract
This paper reports a congress which drew the attention on a short but prolific time for humanities which sparked in the Faculty of Literature and Philosophy of the University of Pavia. The italian critic and philologian Lanfranco Caretti is only one leading figures of a greater group of intellectuals (among others, the paper refers to Enzo Paci, Giulio Preti, Gianfranco Contini) which contributed to the renewal of the italian culture in the second half of the last century. During this period both teaching methods and contents were renewed. Particularly, two points were at stake: the classical heritage related to contemporary culture and society on one side, the dialogue between philological and philosophical disciplines on the other.
