Abstract

The cultural and philosophical tradition of Spanish and Portuguese colonies has been almost neglected for a long time, paradoxically by the American continent itself. The mainstay of such a cultural phenomenon, widely known as Colonial Scholasticism, is definitely the European Scholasticism. The foundation of the first South American educational centres and the constitution of the first universities in the New World give rise to that Academic Community that, on the grounds of the European tradition, will bring about a new methodological thought, mostly concerning the logic field. The study of the Scholastic Logic will start in Mexico in the 16th century until reaching its peak in the 17th century in Peru, seat of Spanish Viceroyalty.
