Abstract
Starting with Harold Bloom’s famous book The Western Canon, the canon has been and continues to be a central theme for Italian literary criticism. But why then is it so difficult to reason canon in relation to the literary production of the last two or three decades? What is happening to the literary institution and to the various actors involved in the production and in the reading? And how are the value paradigms of orientation to the selection paths operating today among the mass audience changing?
