Abstract
What are the challenges that postcolonial reflection poses for western feminist thought? This article runs through some of the fundamental articulations of this debate beginning with two principal dimensions: the question of agency and the discourse on difference. In fact, postcolonial feminism invites a re-evaluation of the specific agency of "subaltern" women, abandoning the paradigm of victimization; instead it exhorts us to give attention to the differences between women, articulated in particular around the sexuality/maternity nexus and the diverse meanings taken on by domestic space in its various historical experiences. From these considerations the possibility of a different feminist practice able to valorise the multiple and transnational dimensions of the cause emerges.
