Abstract
Photovoice is a collaborative action-research strategy appreciated above all for its pragmatic relevance, because subaltern actors can speak out and describe «what is worth remembering and what needs to be changed» (C. Wang). The article unpacks photovoice in three research methods: native image-making, serial focus group with photoelicitation and participant observation. Drawing on material from my research with young people with and without a migrant background, I strive to make photovoice a credible methodology for qualitative visual research.
