Abstract
After more than thirty years after the original publication of Sound and Sentiment in 1982, Steven Feld recontextualizes it as a landmark book for cultural studies of sound. In particular, its sensuous and ethnographic approach to sound is discussed in relation with the development of sound studies and experimental projects between social sciences, music and plastic arts. The influence of this work on Italian anthropology is also discussed, as are several projects of anthropological research on the sound of the traditional campanacci festivals of San Antonio Abbate in Tricarico and San Mauro Forte in Basilicata, which are presented as innovative ways to think about the interactions between ecology, aesthetics, senses and affects.
