Abstract

The publication of some books - as Trauma by Jeffrey C. Alexander, Sociologie della Memoria edited by Anna Lisa Tota, Trever Hagen and Lia Luchetti, Memorie del Futuro by Paolo Jedlowski and Sette modi di dimenticare by Aleyda Assmann – is the paper to reflect on the trauma, on its ‘empire’, on the victimary paradigm (Fassin and Rechtmann 2009) and on its antecedent: the witness’ era (Wieviorka 1998). The goal is to connect the scientific discourse on memory and the scientific discourse on trauma by enhancing their social and cultural dimensions.
