Abstract
The articles discusses the trends and development of sovereign wealth funds in the countries of the Gulf. In recent years, the GCC countries have been transformed into financial centres with sophisticated financial investment strategies with an important component of such strategies being the creation of various financial funds to sustain economic development. In particular, the strategic and efficient use of these funds with longterm investing strategies in the recent years, coupled with large windfalls from oil revenues, has resulted in the accumulation of further capital in the region. Should Europe and the United States fear sovereign funds or should they consider them financial tools to stabilize their economies in the current crisis?
