Abstract
The article analyses how the current and expected flows of remittances are distributed in the world. It opens with a portrait of the major source countries of remittances and it then adds a discussion of the importance of these transfers for developing countries in general, and for Albania in detail. Finally, it displays the size of the remittance flows to Italy between 1861 and 1970 and it emphasizes their active and crucial role in the development process of Italy after the two World Wars.
