Abstract
We were expecting the Chinese to change and become like us. But in the midst of the crisis, contrary to our expectations, we are the ones who are becoming more Chinese. Liberal countries are turning to the State for help in solving market dysfunctions, thus highlighting the subtle relationship between the two. China stolidly uses the free trade exchange for its despotic imperial politics and aims at future leadership. The West must regain its senses.
