Abstract
This article is based on the speech delivered by FEEM researcher Valentina Bosetti at the TEDx Lake Como 2010. It explains why the mitigation of greenhouse gases is such a complex issue, and illustrates the role of innovation and technological progress in the fight against climate change, based on the findings of her research under the ICARUS project (Innovation for Climate change mitigation: a study of energy R&D, its Uncertain effectiveness and Spillovers), supported by the grant awarded to Valentina by the European Research Council.
