Abstract

China reputedly has strong traditional family values which date back thousands of years since the teachings of Confucius. With the one-child policy introduced into Chinese society, many changes are happening in Chinese families. Daughters especially have benefi ted from this particular family pattern generated by China's one-child policy and obtained unprecedented gender equality. It might not just be attributable to the specific demographic pattern but the economic environment can call for gender equality. When the old traditional system might become an obstacle of development for the economy, society is expected to undergo changes to respond to the changing rhythm of the socioeconomic development.
