Abstract

South America has realized that it is threatened by water scarcity. A paradox, since South America is considered the world's wealthiest continent in terms of water. Over one third of the world's water reserves are under South American soil, states UN-Water, the United Nations inter-agency coordination mechanism for all freshwater and sanitation related matters. There are multiple and global causes, ranging from environmental issues to bad administration, poverty and inequalities.
