Abstract
The article describes the lives of women in Saudi Arabia, an Islamic Wahhabi state. The author has lived for three years in Riyadh, and she has interviewed women belonging to different social classes. The strongest push towards modernization in a slowly evolving society comes from the female population. The article is an excerpt of a forthcoming book.
