Abstract

Twenty-one years have passed since the launch of the Beijing Declaration and Platform for Action, and still concepts such as "women's empowerment and gender mainstreaming", remain goals to be met rather than realities. The article strongly makes the point that the gender gap, in its economic and job related dimensions, not only damages millions of people worldwide, but it also paralyses the economic growth of both developed and developing nations. Only a stronger commitment and a holistic approach that sees women on the front line, such as that provided by the 2030 Agenda, can make the difference in building a more equal world for future generations.
