Abstract
The recent huge natural gas discoveries in the offshore of Israel, Cyprus and Egypt provide unique opportunities: on the one hand, they may well allow the region's countries to satisfy their growing energy demand with domestic resources, underpinning economic development, stabilization and integration; on the other hand, they could also contribute to the European goal of diversifying natural gas supplies. International energy companies can play a crucial role in triggering a virtuous process of development and sustainable cooperation.
