Abstract
Many comparative studies on the authoritarian regimes of Asia, Latin America and former Eastern countries define their regimes as «sultanistic». They are characterized by the presence of a leader who exercises his power without limitations and the presence of a «familist» and patronage apparatus, whose power derives from support for the leader.
