Download

Abstract

Examining urbanization in the Global South – China, India and Brazil – we find that urbanization and economic growth are positively correlated, with the strongest relationship in China, and weakest in India. China’s cities are primate, when compared with those in India and Brazil. In Bengaluru, India, all jobs are accessible within a 30-minute commute. China is the most relaxed in respect of urban land use regulations, but the least sustainable in terms of carbon emissions.
