The Generation of Value in Urban Spaces

In the context of globalisation, urban spaces are critical to bringing prosperity, wealth and jobs. The economic model upon which cities rely determines their efforts in bringing economic activity, talent or any other resource that contributes to those goals. Creating urban value is thus putting together the spatial attributes and characteristics of the city at the service of a dominant economic standard at a time; it is shaped by time and space. This paper explores the creation of urban value in specific contexts dominated by the knowledge economy. Three dimensions will be taken into account: to whom is this value addressed, by which governance models is it achieved; and through which customary tools this value is created.
