Abstract
A passage from the medieval canonist Giovanni D'Andrea, taken from a book owned by Bernardo Machiavelli, Niccolò's father, sheds an unexpected light on a scene from "Mandragola". Starting from this discovery, this essay underlines the importance of scholastic Aristotelism in Machiavelli's education. This reading, which appeared several times in the past but was always rejected, is presented here in a new way.
