Abstract
This essay investigates some historiographical Lombard texts from the 12th century, which seem to allude to different conceptions of the relationship between the cities; specifically, a hegemonic Milanese perspective stands in opposition to a more egalitarian view. These texts seem to be the expression of a debate on political themes, and some historical facts play a decisive role in this debate. The survey therefore shows a possible use of historical knowledge for practical purposes.
