Abstract
This essay will examine the involvement of some schools in the anti-Jewish campaign and the spread of racism after the 1938 laws in Italy. The essay focuses on the didactic activity of teachers in certain primary schools in the school records of Rome, Turin and Potenza provinces, delving into regional diversity while providing a national perspective. In particular, the essay examines class registers, which contain information on planning of didactic activies, in-classe teaching and, more general, everyday school life; school records are also examined. The goal is both to verify the spread of racism inside the classroom starting in Autumn 1938, and to reflect upon the teachers’ support of Fascist racism as well as the significance of that support under a regime aiming to be totalitarian
