Abstract

The essay is a book review of Francesco Benigno’s Terrore e terrorismo. Saggio Storico sulla violenza politica, which attempts to contextualize it in the general history of contemporary terrorism. The essay discusses the volume’s aim and Benigno’s definition of terrorism. Benigno intends to shed light on the subjective use of the term ‘terrorism’, examining its presence in the strategies of the political groups who adopted violent political practices in the last two centuries. This choice is discussed in the essay, together with the relationship of terrorism with other forms of political violence and its relevance throughout the Twentieth century.
