Abstract
This essay aims to analyze the conflict between the First Mexican Empire and the Marquesado del Valle de oaxaca, which belonged to the Sicilian Duke of Monteleone, as well as the political and economic interests behind it, which were linked to the ambiguities of the Hispanic liberal legislation on señoríos, to the contradictions of the independence of Mexico and to the growing ambition of the Europeans to take profit from the new nation
