Abstract
Franco Bonelli was one of the first italian business historians in a modern sense. this is evident in his 1975 volume on the terni steel company, marking a real milestone in italian business history. While free to use all the firm's internal sources, he relied above all on his ability to single out the issues and the different strategies of the main actors. Bonelli emphasized that while the primary duty of an historian is to research and deal with papers, it's also possible to write a company history without a compact set of primary sources.
