Abstract
This article aims to illustrate the first results of a research carried out in major Italian and Austrian libraries and archives, like Milan, Venice, Padua and Vienna. it focuses on a peculiar judicial institution, the Military Commission in Este. this organism worked in some provinces of Habsburg Venetia for about four years, exactly from 1850 to 1854, namely after 1848 revolution, in a frame of state of siege and in a ticklish moment of the first half of the so-called "neo-absolutist era" in the Austrian Empire.
