Abstract
The Council of European Municipalities, in its action aimed at promoting the idea of Europe by safeguarding local autonomies, has undertaken since 1951 an action of pressure on particular themes that affected in an important way the local reality, above all (but not only) urban. The article investigates the role played by the Council of European Municipalities in promoting a European policy of sustainable mobility and in addressing the European institutions towards these issues.
