Abstract
This paper analyses some transformations of the upper part of the Piave River Basin, which were produced in the first half of the twentieth century and resulted in the development of the socalled Piave-Santa Croce system. The making of this system was the outcome of different – often conflicting – dynamics, which involved the main subjects interested in the use of Piave water during those decades. Such dynamics have been examined starting through the documentation produced and conserved in the Genio civile offices, the administrative structure in charge of water use issues at the local level.
