Abstract
The State Archives have played a pivotal role in the formation, conservation and enhancement of the national archival heritage. The State Archives of Naples, a central institution in the Kingdom of the Two Sicilies, then peripheral after the Unification, has assumed, particularly in some phases of its long history, a leading role, towards similar cultural institutions, in the difficult task of safeguarding and making documentary sources of general importance available for historical research
