Abstract
In recent years, there has been a proliferation of television series that have as their subject the history or more generally the past and the success of these productions has highlighted the existence of an interest for history by the general public. Faced with this phenomenon, it is legitimate to ask whether and to what extent historical television series pose a challenge to professional historians, to the historiographical production and more generally to the conception of history as a critical analysis of the past. This round-table thus aims to reflect on the way in which television series deal with the past, on the relationship between entertainment and historical reconstruction, on the impact of TV series on the way of making history.
