Abstract
Humanity has rediscovered its own vulnerability with Covid-19. The purpose of the article is to investigate the operational and communication strategies with which politics and public institutions have faced the health emergency produced by the Sars-CoV-2 virus. From both an Italian and an international perspective it analyses the risks and distorting effects to democratic systems of the 21st century produced by the pandemic in recent years. A reflection on the political and social effects of today’s health crisis which includes coverage of major cases of contagion that have marked the history of nations in the distant and recent past.
