Abstract
In this interview, Felipe González starts by giving a brief outline of the political priorities of the Spanish Socialist Party during the years of the transition to democracy. He then goes on to assess the work of his government in the areas of home and foreign policy. He particularly emphasises the important impact of European integration on the ideological evolution of the PSOE, along with the active role that Spain very quickly assumed within the European Union. In conclusion, González offers his current views on the trans-Atlantic crisis, which he sees not as the end of the Alliance, but as "a crisis of adaptation to a new and different reality in which the roles have changed radically".
