Abstract

The aim of this essay is to analyze the main historical researches concerning European terrorism in the Seventies and Eighties of the last century. The author describes the most important works published in Italy, Germany, the United Kingdom and the United States in the last ten years, by dividing his essay in seven parts. The first one is about the politicization of the several researches concerning terrorism and the second shows the many books analyzing the political and social roots of European terrorism. The third part describes in details the development and radicalization of the terroristic activities and the reaction of political power and media. The last two parts focus on transnational and comparative dimensions of European terrorism.
