Abstract
In the first part of the paper a brief overview is provided concerning the topics dealt with in recent scholarship on Henry Sidgwick, sketchily reviewing materials from 1992 to 2002. Then, a problem pointed out by David O. Brink is considered in detail. According to Brink, Sidgwick's common sense utilitarianism is in plain contradiction with the foundationalist epistemology presupposed in "The Methods of Ethics". Brink's explanation of such a contradiction is presented, referring also to other renderings of Sidgwick's epistemology and common sense utilitarianism.
