Abstract
This essay questions the meaning of the sentence «The Anthropocene is an event». To this end, we use what Maurice Merleau-Ponty elaborated in his courses at the Collège de France on the subject of the event and the institution. In fact, it seems possible to find some conceptual tools to think of the Anthropocene not as an absolute rupture nor as the repetition of a geological history all the same. Finally, through the use of some of Dipesh Chakrabarty’s texts, we try to establish a dialogue between the French thinker and some contemporary reflections on the Anthropocene that seem to us to go in his direction.
