Abstract
Francesco Orsi and Gianfranco Pellegrino discuss Derek Parfit's On What Matters. Orsi focuses on Parfit's metaethics. His main claim is that Parfit's rejections of subjectivism, naturalism and non-cognitivism are insufficient as premises for Parfit's positive stance, which is a form of realist non-naturalism. Pellegrino deals with Parfit's attempt to ground rule-consequentialism on contractualist premises. He contends that contractualism does not have a real justificatory role in Parfit's argument for consequentialism. Therefore, the latter lacks full justification.
