Abstract
Claudia Mancina and Nicla Vassallo discuss the recently approved Italian law which regulates civil unions. Mancina argues that the law signals a significant step which is coherent with the gradual process of regulation in these matters in other countries. Vassallo criticizes the law on the basis that it sanctions and promotes inequality among citizens by sorting out a civil union for lgbt people and by refusing to recognize same-sex marriage.
