Abstract
This contribution is mainly focused on Cécile Laborde’s political philosophy. I will consider important features of her thought within contemporary debate on secularism and multiculturalism and I will try to develop a critical analysis of her works in which she makes the effort to shape a new hermeneutic of laïcité and secularism, thus expanding the horizons of republicanism’s as well as of liberalism’s conceptual repertoire and critical reflection. I will focus, in particular, on the following issues: the problem of national identity, her theory of a «critical» republicanism; her proposal of a «justificatory» and «minimalist» secularism.
