Abstract
This paper examines and criticizes Mauro Barberis' ideas on the Relationships between freedom and security. The author focuses on Barberis' views on 1) security as individual right and collective interest; 2) rights and judicial balancing of rights through the criterion of proportionality; 3) the nature of contemporary islamic terrorism; 4) the counterterrorist measures adopted in Western countries since 9/11.
