Abstract
Vitam instituere (Torino 2023) offers Roberto Esposito the occasion to reconstruct the genealogy of instituting thought, which he retraces from the ‘systematic’ Roman legal tradition of the imperial period to contemporary thought. He identifies three especially significant moments when the sovereign fabric of Modernity has been torn, thanks to the revolutionary contributions of Machiavelli, Spinoza, and Hegel.
