Abstract
The essay reconstructs the making of the concept of citizenship in France between "ancien regime" and Restoration through the changes in the physiocratic notion of politically "available" class. To this, a radically egalitarian concept of "droit de cité" will be opposed during the Revolution, and especially during the Jacobin hegemony, a notion that will fade away in the age of the Directory, of the Empire and the Restoration.
