Abstract
The article analyzes Harrington's model of the mixed State. England's transformation into a republic is based upon a typically modern yet original historical analysis. As a result Harrington proposes a new formulation of the six constitutions doctrine and a strong polemics against feudalism. His aim is a no longer medieval political regime, and therefore recurs to some Hobbesian categories, although diverted from the monarchic outcome which Harrington identifies with the 'Leviathan'.
