Abstract
This article discusses some models of theory of the promise that are present in the contemporary philosophical debate. It examines the relationship between the promissory act and the processes constituting individual and collective identity. The idea of promise is recognized as aporetical and interpreted as a concept that, at the same time, constitutes and destabilizes the relationship between ethics and politics.
